& ^# J2 Q' D* X' g% r4 a7 hA Mississauga man who pleaded guilty to dangerous driving causing death in a multi-vehicle crash near Bolton that killed two women returns to court Monday for sentencing.
% q2 n2 d9 `! E( W+ mBrian Machado, 30, who pleaded to two counts of the charge on May 17, admitted in Brampton court that he was driving dangerously along with his brother, Steven, on Oct. 6, 2007, "and in doing so, caused the deaths."# E0 X8 Q- e( E9 r. D8 F
Machado was initially charged with two counts of criminal negligence causing death in a seven-car pile-up on Hwy. 50 that killed two best friends — Cynthia Dougherty, 49, of Beeton, and her passenger, Mariarosa (Mar) Dalsass, 44, of Palgrave.
/ X" L$ U* p! `However, his lawyers and the Crown agreed to pleas on the lesser charge. They've also agreed that jail time won't be necessary and will instead recommend a conditional sentence to be served in the community.
" l; W% o$ z+ }$ l- G& NSteven Machado, 25, pleaded guilty to two counts of criminal negligence causing death and was sentenced last year to 21 months in jail. He was also prohibited from driving for 10 years.1 S6 x+ M" g8 p
